Air traffic students at Mt. SAC in Walnut tell congresswoman FAA diversity rules are unfair

WALNUT - A dozen students whose applications for air traffic controller jobs were rejected by the Federal Aviation Administration because they failed a newly-instituted psychological screening test received assurances from a congresswoman that she’d investigate the matter. Rep. Grace Napolitano, D-El Monte, visited Mt. San Antonio College Thursday and promised the aeronautical students she would get their voices heard in Washington, and if necessary, hand deliver their applications to FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta.

San Gabriel Valley women honored by congresswoman for service

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY - Local volunteers were honored Friday by Rep. Grace Napolitano at the 2014 Women of the Year ceremony in Azusa. Twenty-four women who were nominated by volunteer organizations in the San Gabriel Valley received recognition at the event. “The general public does not realize the importance of volunteering in churches, civic organizations, and nonprofits that these women bring to their communities,” Napolitano said in a statement. “The efforts these women have made, which have taken them away from their families, are to be commended and celebrated.”

Napolitano brings mental health services program to school district in El Monte

EL MONTE - Suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth ages 15 to 24, according to a report from the National Institute of Mental Health. “I was shocked,” said Dr. Luis Garcia, a 26-year clinical psychologist, about the statistic. Garcia is vice president of Latino program development with Pacific Clinics (PC), a behavioral healthcare agency, who works in partnership with Rep. Grace Napolitano D-El Monte to offer school-based mental health services in 18 area schools within the 32nd district.

Makers of super fast, blimp-like craft expand into new building in Montebello

They say politicians are often full of hot air. In Montebello, a trio of Congresswomen were more interested in helium. Reps. Judy Chu, Linda Sanchez and Grace Napolitano on Tuesday toured the new Worldwide Aeros Corp. building on Gage Road in Montebello. The expansion to the new office and warehouse was brought on by progress of the Aeroscraft, an experimental blimp-like airship that would travel about 120 mph and could take off and land vertically.
